Overwhelmed by sustainability initiatives? We share the who’s who of net zero

We’ve all been told time and time again the mantras “quality over quantity” and “less is more”, but are we practising what we preach? It seems talk of collaboration has well and truly arrived, but is it really happening? And if so, why is it still so complicated to understand how everyone fits together?

The lack of regulatory net zero standards, has meant the landscape has become awash with net zero commitments. Whilst set with good intention, there’s been limited consistency in measurement and targeting. As such, I have felt overwhelmed and confused when diving into individual net zero claims. With COP26 only exasperating the situation. As a result, leading net zero coalitions have become increasingly important, providing some conformity in an otherwise chaotic world. Businesses of all sizes have started rallying together and collaboration is well and truly underway.

As Chief Engagement Officer, my role is to align Spherics with these initiatives, so our customers know what we stand for and how we’ve aligned our tool to existing best practices. To give you an overview of some of these brilliant initiatives making great headway, we’ve pulled together this handy comparison guide. Full written breakdown at the foot of the article.

Summary of net zero initiatives and net zero pledges

**Please note, the information included in the infographic is to the best of our knowledge and compiled through website research only, we apologise in advance for any omissions or errors.**

This isn’t an exhaustive list of net zero initiatives and there’s some brilliant sector specific ones out there also; including Tech Zero, Ad Net Zero, the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment and the Creative Climate Disclosure to name a few.

Moving away from purely net zero, I’m a big advocate of the work UN Global Compact and SHE Changes Climate is doing. We’re also in the process of becoming a member of the Climate Coalition and of course Spherics is proud to have started the journey to become a Certified B Corp (we submitted our application in June!) and supporter of the Better Business Act.

As you can see, there’s a lot of great initiatives businesses can align with and most of them are working together. True collaboration in action! These initiatives have done brilliant work where legislation has lagged behind. Yet, the campaigner in me can’t help but ask, can we go further? Would less initiatives help focus businesses even more and arguably achieve action faster?

The climate emergency is the greatest threat humanity has ever faced and we believe collaboration is no longer optional, it is essential. Get in touch if you’d like to collaborate, I’d love to hear from you!
